Frequently asked questions
Everything about the correction, the NCLC estimate, pricing and your data.
The service
What is TCF Canada Coach?
An online grader for TCF Canada and TEF Canada writing and speaking. You write a text or record an answer on a prompt in the exam format; an AI set up with the official criteria estimates your NCLC level, corrects your mistakes sentence by sentence, scores each criterion and writes a model answer on the same prompt.
Which tasks can you correct?
TCF Canada writing (task 1: 60–120-word message; task 2: 120–150-word article or letter; task 3: 120–180-word comparison of two opinions) and TEF Canada writing (section A: continue a news story, 80 words minimum; section B: opinion letter, 200 words minimum). France Éducation international publishes the same writing sample test for TCF Canada, TCF Québec and TCF tout public.
Do you also correct speaking?
Yes. Record your answer to a speaking task (TCF Canada tasks 1 to 3; TEF Canada sections A and B) or type what you would say. The recording is transcribed automatically and the transcript is assessed with the exam criteria: estimated NCLC level, corrections, useful phrases and a model answer. Pronunciation and intonation are not assessed, and in the interactive tasks the examiner is not simulated: you record your own lines.
Are the prompts real exam questions?
No. All our prompts are original. They follow the official format (text type, recipient, word count) but are neither real questions nor remembered “sujets d’actualité”. You can also paste the instructions of any prompt.
How long does a correction take?
Usually 20 to 60 seconds. The report then stays in your account.
Levels and scoring
Is the NCLC level official?
No, it is an estimate. Only France Éducation international (TCF Canada) and CCI Paris Île-de-France (TEF Canada) issue official results, and IRCC sets their NCLC equivalence.
How is the level estimated?
The AI scores your text out of 20 against the criteria published by the official bodies (vocabulary, grammar, spelling, coherence, development of ideas, fit to the situation). The score is then converted to NCLC with IRCC’s chart. For TEF Canada we also show the matching score band out of 699.
How reliable is the estimate?
It is meant for practice and tracking progress, not for predicting your exact result. An official grader reads three tasks (TCF) or two sections (TEF) together; we assess one task at a time. Watch the trend over several texts and the mistakes that keep coming back. Above B2 the estimate is conservative: a C1 text is often estimated at B2. Once you get your official result, you can report it from your report page (optional, no name asked): it helps us improve the estimate.
How do you count words?
With the official TCF rule: a word is any group of signs between two spaces. « C’est-à-dire » counts as 1 word, « un bon sujet » as 3. Stand-alone punctuation marks are not counted.
What happens if I do not respect the word count?
Under the official TCF instructions, a paper can be rated “A1 not reached” if a task does not respect the required word count, is off topic, or if a task is missing. Our report warns you in red in those cases.
Can I still ask for a TCF re-mark?
France Éducation international says that from the 1 September 2026 sessions, re-mark requests for the writing and speaking tests are no longer accepted for about a year, with the service planned to resume in autumn 2027. All the more reason to arrive well prepared.
Price, payment and account
How much does a correction cost?
The preview (estimated level and 2 corrections) is free, 2 times a day. The full report costs US$9.90 for 10 corrections, US$24.90 for 40, US$49.90 for 100, or US$29.90 for an unlimited 30-day pass.
Is there a subscription?
No. All payments are one-time, with no automatic renewal.
How do I find my corrections again?
After your first purchase you get a personal access link. It is saved in your browser; open it on another device to see your corrections there. Do not share it: it gives access to your account.
I lost my access link.
Write to us from the contact page with your payment email or order number: we check the purchase and send you a new link.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, in full, within 7 days of purchase, once per customer, no questions asked.
Privacy
Are my texts private?
Your texts are only used to produce your report. They are not published, sold or shared for advertising. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
Are my recordings kept?
No. The recording is only used to produce the transcript, then it is discarded. We keep the transcript and the report, as for a written text.
Do you use advertising cookies?
No. We only use two technical cookies: a device identifier (for the free preview and visit measurement) and, after a purchase, your account access.
Exams and immigration
TCF Canada or TEF Canada: which one?
IRCC accepts both and converts them to NCLC. Their writing formats differ: three short tasks with a word maximum in the TCF, two longer texts with no maximum in the TEF. Our guide compares them in detail.
What level do I need for Express Entry?
It depends on the program. For example, Express Entry’s French-language proficiency category requires NCLC 7 in all four abilities, and the Comprehensive Ranking System grants extra points from NCLC 7 in French (IRCC pages updated 16 October 2026). We do not give immigration advice: always check the requirements on IRCC’s website.
