How much does the TCF Canada cost? Test fees by centre in 2026

There is no single official fee: France Éducation international, which designs the test, lets each approved centre set its own price. We read the fee for the four tests on the websites of seven centres on 22 October 2026: CA$392 to CA$400 in Canada, MAD 2,900 in Casablanca, TND 880 in Tunisia and INR 26,000 in New Delhi.

Why the TCF Canada fee depends on the centre

France Éducation international (FEI) gives no fee on its official TCF Canada page. It sends you to the approved centre closest to where you live, which tells you the session dates, how to register, the format (paper or computer) and the fee. FEI also publishes a map of test centres.

So the price depends on the country, the currency and the centre. The test itself is the same everywhere: four compulsory tests (listening, reading, writing and speaking), 2 hours 47 minutes in total. The centres we checked sell it as a single booking; at Concordia, all sections are taken on the same day.

Fee for the full TCF Canada, in the centre’s currency, as shown on its page on 22 October 2026, not converted. Fees change: the one that counts is the fee shown on the day you book.

Alliance Française Ottawa, Alliance Française Vancouver and Institut français d’Algérie show no fee on their TCF pages: ask the centre. For other countries (Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Senegal, France…), find your city on FEI’s map of test centres, then open the centre’s TCF Canada page. One country can have several centres with different fees: in Montreal, Concordia and UQAM do not charge the same amount.

What the fee covers, and what it does not

  • Covered: the four tests and the results certificate, which you download from your TCF-Candidat space. Timing and validity: TCF Canada results.
  • Not covered: preparation. Courses are paid separately. Example: Institut français de Tunisie sells a 20-hour workshop for TND 270, or a workshop and TCF Canada bundle for TND 1,100 instead of TND 1,150.
  • Not covered: travel. Alliance Française Calgary and Concordia pay neither transport nor accommodation, even when a session is cancelled.
  • Paper or computer: the format depends on the centre. Alliance Française Ottawa, for example, offers both.

Cancellation, absence, deferral: a booking is almost always final

At the centres we checked, a paid TCF Canada is not refunded if you do not show up:

  • Formation continue Concordia, Montréal: registration is final, with no transfer, cancellation or refund if you change your mind, for any reason.
  • Alliance Française Calgary: no refund or deferral.
  • Alliance Française du Manitoba, Winnipeg: no refund or deferral.
  • Institut français de Tunisie: non-refundable; transfer possible for force majeure (illness, death of a relative, strike) with proof within 48 hours.

If the centre or FEI cancels the session, Concordia offers a new date or a refund. Two mistakes cost a whole booking: choosing the wrong test, for example TCF Québec instead of TCF Canada (Concordia leaves that choice entirely to the candidate), and booking less than 20 days after a previous sitting: Concordia will not refund, transfer or cancel a booking that breaks that rule.

Retaking the TCF Canada: every attempt costs the full fee

FEI lets you take the TCF Canada as many times as you want, as long as you wait 20 days between two sittings. Some centres state a longer wait: 30 days at Institut français de Tunisie and Alliance Française du Manitoba, and 26 days between two TCF registrations at Institut français d’Algérie. Follow your centre’s rule when you book.

Each sitting costs the full fee. And since the sessions of 1 September 2026, FEI has temporarily suspended re-marking of the writing and speaking tests: a disappointing score can no longer be appealed, you have to retake the test.

That is why it pays to know your level before you book. In writing and speaking, the IRCC table gives NCLC 7 from 10 out of 20; 9 out of 20 is NCLC 6. One point can cost you another booking. The thresholds for every skill are in our NCLC score chart.

What about the TEF Canada fee?

The TEF Canada works the same way: according to CCI Paris Île-de-France, registration fees are set by the test centre and can vary from one centre to another and with the number of tests. Registration is firm and final: if you miss the test without a valid reason, you are not refunded. With proof (a medical certificate, a letter from your employer…), CCI may offer a new registration at the centre at no extra cost.

What is the TCF Canada fee in Nigeria, Egypt or Cameroon?

We did not find a published fee for those countries on 22 October 2026. Look up your city on France Éducation international’s map of test centres, then open the centre’s TCF Canada page or contact it: each centre sets its own fee.

Can I get a refund if I cannot attend?

Usually not. Concordia, Alliance Française Calgary and Alliance Française du Manitoba give no refund or deferral; Institut français de Tunisie allows a transfer for force majeure with proof sent within 48 hours. Read your centre’s terms before you pay.

Do I pay the full fee again to retake the test?

Yes. Each sitting is a new booking at the full fee, at least 20 days after the previous one according to France Éducation international. Re-marking has been suspended since the sessions of 1 September 2026, so retaking is the only way to raise a score.

Is the TCF Canada cheaper than the TEF Canada?

It depends on the centre, since centres set the fee for both tests. At Institut français in Casablanca both cost MAD 2,900. Compare the centres near you, then compare the two formats.
