TEF Canada writing mock test

Practise both TEF Canada writing sections under real conditions: continue a news story (80 words minimum), then write an opinion letter (200 words minimum), in 60 minutes. You get an estimated NCLC level and the first corrections for each section.

    How the mock test works

    1. Two prompts are picked at random: a news-story opening for section A and a statement for section B.
    2. The 60-minute timer starts when you click “Start”. Your paper is saved on your device.
    3. Aim for a useful length: there is no maximum in the TEF, but a text that is too short loses points for development.
    4. You hand in: both sections are corrected together, then the level for the test is estimated.

    Before you start

Take the mock test once you know what each section asks for: the guides linked below explain both formats. Switch off notifications and, if you want to practise the real split, set a 25-minute alarm for section A. Write directly in the boxes rather than pasting a text prepared in advance, or the estimate will not reflect your level on the day. If time runs out before you finish, hand in anyway: a section shorter than the minimum is still corrected, and the report flags the word count.

    Splitting your time

In the exam each section has its own time: 25 minutes for section A and 35 minutes for section B. In the mock test the timer is shared: move to section B after 25 minutes at the latest. Keep 3 to 5 minutes at the end of each section to check past tenses (section A) and agreement (section B).

    What you get

    • Free: the estimated NCLC level for the test, the matching TEF score band, the level of each section and its 2 most important corrections.
    • With the full reports (2 corrections): every correction explained, a score for each criterion, the instructions check, your priorities and a model answer for each section.

To prepare each part, read the guides for section A and section B, and the NCLC score chart.

    FAQ

Is this TEF Canada writing mock test free?

Yes for the preview: an estimated NCLC level for the test and the 2 most important corrections for each section. One mock test counts as a single free preview for the day. Full reports for both sections cost 2 corrections.

Are these real TEF Canada questions?

No. The news-story openings and statements are original and picked at random from our bank, in the official CCI Paris Île-de-France format.

Does the timer split the two sections?

The timer shows 60 minutes for the whole test. In the real exam, time is limited per section: 25 minutes for section A and 35 minutes for section B. Keep an eye on the clock so you move to section B on time.

    How is the score estimated?

Each section is scored against the criteria published by CCI. The overall level is an average weighted by section time, converted to NCLC, with the matching score band out of 699. It is an estimate.
