TEF Canada speaking topics to practise

8 practice topics in the format of the TEF Canada speaking test: four adverts you phone about (section A) and four adverts to present to a friend to convince them (section B). They are original, not exam questions. Each one opens in the recorder at the top of the page: speak or type your answer and get it corrected. The exam is in French, so the adverts and model questions are too.

How the TEF Canada speaking test works

The test lasts 15 minutes, in two sections, with an examiner who plays the other person. According to CCI Paris Île-de-France, section A assesses your ability to get information, ask for details and lead a formal exchange; section B, your ability to present a situation, develop and nuance your arguments and lead an informal exchange. Vocabulary, syntax and pronunciation count in both sections.

  • Section A (5 minutes): from an advert, phone to get information by asking about ten questions.
  • Section B (10 minutes): present an advert to a friend and argue to convince them.
